Lajuma Research Centre is found in the Soutpansberg Mountain Range, near Louis Trichardt (Makhado), in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The area it is located in forms part of Luvhondo nature reserve. The area is most noted for its stunning pristine wilderness and amazing wildlife.
The wildlife in the area is extremely diverse and includes all 5 of South Africa's primate species including the Samango and Vervet monkeys that I will be conducting research on, a healthy population of leopards, brown hyenas and beautiful birds such as the Black Eagle and Purple-crested Turac.
The Primary research that is undertaken at Lajuma aims to build up a data base of the environment, bio-diversity and ecology of this area of South Africa.
This video shows the kind of things I will be doing out at lajuma research center,
The research centre is run by Ian and Retha Gaigher, both having over 30 years of research and teaching experience.
